Join Us In South America!!

After such a successful trip to Haiti where we were able to donate 300 pairs of underwear to women of all ages, we have decided to make another international drop-off in South America!
On #GivingTuesday we started accepting donations to help send us to South America and we we're offering for anyone who donated $100 or more a chance to be entered in a drawing to join us! We raised 25% of our goal on giving Tuesday and we could not thank those donors enough! (And all $100+ giving Tuesday donors will be entered into our raffle TWICE!) Now, we're turning giving Tuesday into a full month of giving! So the rest of you aren't off the hook yet :)  We're giving you the entire month of December to help us reach our goal and have the chance to come with us! Outfit of the Week: Holiday Shopping

It's that time of year again where we all head out in search of the perfect gifts for our loved ones to open over the holidays! This means it's also time to brave the cold and possibly spend quite awhile hunting for that perfect something! This outfit is perfect for both of those things because it is comfortable and will keep you nice and warm! (And totally trendy!)
We started with The Kaydee- Wide Lace Brazilian underwear and layered over them a pair of black velvet jeggings and an over-sized flannel. We're keeping our toes warm in a pair of brown riding boots and bundling up with an army green parka, a gray infinity scarf and a black headband ear warmer! Outfit of the Week: Black Friday Shopping

Ladies, if you're brave enough to leave your house this Friday in search of the best holiday deals, then we're sure you'll need an outfit to keep up with the crazy day that awaits you! So, this outfit is very comfortable (easy to run in and hides any signs you had a really good lunch the day before) and it's cute!

Outfit of the Week: Thanksgiving Preparation

I don't know about you guys, but I have got a lot to do before next Thursday! I've got some shopping, cooking and decorating to do! And while I may be busy, I still want to look cute doing all of my preparation for the big day. Which, is why I think this is the perfect outfit to run errands, decorate and cook in, while staying a bit stylish!

Our First International Drop-Off!!

We are thrilled to announce -- that because of charitable contributions from supporters like YOU to our non-profit, MADI Donations -- we are going to be traveling to Haiti in just three short days to donate 300 pairs of underwear and complete our very first international drop-off!!
We will be traveling to Fond Parisien, Haiti. This community and those surrounding it are very remote and poverty-stricken.  In these circumstances, women's needs are unfortunately not high priorities, and menstrual supplies are hard to access, including UNDERWEAR. MADI hopes to change this! We are collaborating with Circle of Health International - an amazing organization that reached out to us a few months ago requesting new underwear for women in their safe birth center. Together we will be distributing 300 pairs of MADI underwear to mothers and young girls in these rural communities. Along with new underwear, these women will be receiving menstrual health education, which is frequently not addressed.

Outfit of the Week: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so it's time to think about what you're going to wear this year! We are thinking about something very fashionable, but VERY comfortable (due to all the food we're going to be enjoying) for this year!
So, for this perfect Thanksgiving outfit, we are going to be starting off with our Diana- Wide Lace Thong on bottom and we are layering over that a casual, yet very fashionable gray sweater dress. We are accessorizing with a cream scarf, black over-the-knee boots, and a fun burgundy fringe purse. To top if all off, we are putting on some burgundy earrings, a few gold bangles and a gold ring!

#TheGreatDonate: A Recap

We recently held our first annual fundraiser called The Great Donate and it was indeed very great! In case you were unable to make it, we had live music, cocktails with KC Rieger Whiskey, Gin and Vodka, appetizers donated by Westside Local and Fevere Bread, an outdoor smore's bar and a silent auction! We also did a live donation to all of our eight Kansas City partnered organizations and donated 400 pairs of underwear!

In the end, we raised enough money to meet our goal to be able to travel to Haiti on November 16th to do our very first International drop-off!  While we are there, we will be volunteering our time and hearts for an organization called Circle of Health International - providing safe-birthing resources for women and babies in a refugee camp in Fond Parisian.  Circle of Health International reached out to us a few months ago asking if we could help them out with some underwear donations, and we were thrilled to be able to help! So, we made the goal of our fundraiser The Great Donate to be to raise enough funds to send us to Haiti to donate 300 pairs of MADI undies to women of all ages. Now, with the help of all of our amazing supporters we will be heading to Haiti in 11 days! 
We could not be more thankful to everyone who came and showed us their love and support! We can not wait to see you all next year! & stay tuned to hear more about our trip to Haiti!

A Beautiful Ending

Survivor stories never fail to make us smile, get teary eyed or stop and think about the women in our lives, and this one is no different.

Melissa was attacked in 2012 by her ex-boyfriend from high school, who she was broken up with. She was stabbed 32 times - 19 to the head, neck and face and 13 to her arms and hands from trying to fight back. The damage didn't stop there - she "flat-lined 4 times in the ER, received 12 units of blood, suffered a stroke in [her] cerebellum, had a fractured skull and nose, [lost] two teeth, right facial paralysis, stabbed larynx, and was severely beaten."

Despite all the horrible things that came of that attack, one amazing thing came from it as well. One of the firefighter EMT's that responded to Melissa's attack was named Cameron.  It wasn't until some time later that they met for the first time when Melissa was giving her first speech on her attack. After hearing her speak, he invited Melissa and her mother to dinner at the firehouse, and the rest is history.

"Hayley's Story" - the words of our founder:

"A few years back, a close family member of mine confided in me about a toxic, manipulative, abusive relationship with a boyfriend from her past who threatened to kill her and her loved ones.  This all happened in her young life, years before I was born and years before she met her now-husband of 30 years.  
This conversation opened my eyes to the possibility that even the strongest of humans can find themselves sucked into abuse from a manipulative partner.  Even the people you've always looked up to, the ones who seem so strong and confident, the ones who lead perfectly happy lives.  When things turned really scary and my loved one was ready, she had supportive friends and family members step up and help her escape this life-threatening partnership.  Not all victims are so lucky.
Around the same time, I heard a shocking statistic - that UNDERWEAR IS THE MOST NEEDED, UNDER-DONATED ITEM OF CLOTHING IN THE US.  I did a little research with friends and started calling homeless shelters to follow up with this statistic.  Turns out, it's true.  Here's the part that feels like MADI was a true calling for my life.  The homeless shelters suggested that we reach out to domestic violence shelters, as they are always looking for new underwear donations.  The pieces matched up.  We could help in such a simple way.  Underwear is on the urgent needs list at almost every domestic violence and homeless shelter.  Not only would underwear donations make a woman feel clean, but they would help bring back confidence.  

 

To help raise awareness everywhere she goes, Hayley dyed her hair purple for the month of October to show survivors that MADI cares by creating the Purple Hair Campaign using hashtag #purplehairwecare! Here are a few pictures of her fun new do:
